Peridot was originally called 'Chrysolite', meaning 'golden stone' in Greek. Diamond is 1 of the 4 'precious' gemstones.

Peridot is the August birthstone, and is the traditional gift for a 16th wedding anniversary. Diamond is the April birthstone, and is used to mark a 10th and 60th anniversary.

Peridot has long been associated with luck, and the power to ward off evil spirits.
